Chapter 06: The Last War and the Freedom Fighter

While I was working on this story, I had a fantastic opportunity to meet Divad, the freedom fighter. He was the greatest hero of the last war before the return of the dead of all time.

This was the war to end all wars and killing, to bring peace and security to the Mega-Universe. It was at a time when all life had come to the point that no one had to kill to live and the only ones who killed did so for the power and the joy they found in it.

Those fighting the war were broken into three groups. The first group was commanded by a woman named Nor. She and her people were known as the Orderists. Nor and her followers believed that the only way to stop the killing and bring peace was to bring order to the universe. They believed in allowing life to do whatever it wanted, as long as it did not hurt other life. They believed it was necessary to make laws and a legal system to bring order and security for all life.

The other group was led by a woman named Dale. She and her followers were known as the Anti-Orderists. They believed that the way to peace was not in restricting freedom in law, but organizing life so that society would force each person to be good. This would happen because each person wanted to be accepted. If they killed, they would not be accepted, and this would be what would bring security to the world.

The final set of people were not organized in a group, but were individuals. Each one believed in freedom and love above all. Each was willing to show love and preserve freedom by acting freely and with love. They were willing to do anything for the love they felt for all life. It was these people who were known as the freedom fighters, not because they fought for freedom; they did not. They fought because they were free and chose to obey the order to fight. They believed that freedom was not the right to act, but the right to love and not to act. To them, to give was above self and love above all else.

As you can see, Nor and Dale could not quite come to an agreement between them, and this finally led to war. How it was started, no one really knows. But when it started, it turned into one of the bloodiest wars ever known. This was quite odd, since it was a war to stop killing.

Once the war started, the call went out for volunteers to fight the war. This was the undoing of both sides because those who volunteered were those whom history would call the freedom fighters. They came because they were asked. They fought, killed, and died because they were asked to.

The first battle with the freedom fighters on both sides was the strangest conflict in the history of war. The Orderists held the planet Comp and the Anti-Orderists wanted to control it because it was located near a black hole that they could use to attack three other planes. The orders went out. The Orderists were told to defend the planet and the Anti-Orderists were told to take the planet. Some of you might have called this simple.

In the planetary defense headquarters, the commander of the planet saw a swarm of ships coming from the black hole and racing for his world. As they came out, the first volley was launched. It was not a laser or a bomb, but a thought. The thought was, “May I please take this planet?”

One might think that the commander would react violently to this affront, but he responded, “Please hold on and I will ask.” Then the commander on the planet sent a message to his superior. Both of the commanders and all of the troops were freedom fighters.

At the secret base of the Orderists, Nor was waiting for word from the front for anything about how the war was going. When she got the message, she was stricken.

Nor read the message, “We are under attack! I have been asked to surrender the planet and I feel that I must do this to save lives.” Nor knew that she had to save lives and allowed them to surrender the planet.

When the leader of the planet heard this, he sent out the thought, “You may have this planet.” The battle was over.

Now, as you may have guessed, when the real story of what happened came out, or the real story as Nor saw it, Nor was quite mad. She did not understand that the commander of the planet did not lie, but told the truth. He did feel that he was under attack and had to surrender.

It was not until several battles like this that Nor realized that there was something wrong. She set her plans for the next battle.

It was not a battle of spaceships, but of the planet-bound forces. The Orderists held a part of the planet that the Anti-Orderists wanted. As they approached and the battle was joined, the thought came across, “May I please take this piece of land?” The answer came, “Please stand by.”

The message was sent, “We are under attack and I feel that we should surrender.” But the response this time was not that they may, but instead, “You will defend that spot and not give up. If they try to take it, kill them!”

The Anti-Orderists’ leader sent a message to his superior, “Meeting strong resistance. I feel I must fall back.” When Dale heard that for the first time in the war she was losing, she felt that she must give in to save lives. So the battle ended.

Dale was not stupid. When she found out what had happened, she came to the same conclusion that Nor had used to stop losing. This is what caused the bloodshed.

As the battle was joined, the thought went out, “May I please take the ground that you are on?” The response was, “Please stand by.” When the message went to the high command, “We are under attack and I feel that we should give ground,” the response came, “No, you will hold the ground. If they try to take it, kill them!”

The leader of the freedom fighters for the Orderists sent out a thought to the leader of the freedom fighters for the Anti-Orderists saying, “I cannot give you this land.” The leader for the freedom fighters for the Anti-Orderists sent a message to his base saying, “We are under strong attack. I feel that we should withdraw.” But Dale knew what she had to do. The message went back, “You may not withdraw. You will take that planet and if they will not give it up, you will kill them!”

When this was received, the leader on the ships sent out the thought, “May I please kill you?” The answer came back, “Yes,” and the leader fell back dead as a huge battle broke out. The thoughts of each life form on both sides went out in shame and asked to kill each other. Each who was asked gave his life for the love of the other’s needs. As they were asked, one at a time, every life form who was a freedom fighter died.

Thousands died in that battle and no one won, for the last one left alive had killed three hundred life forms personally before she killed herself.

This battle led to millions dying in the same way.

It was at this point that Divad came on the scene.
