An Update

Life has been throwing a lot my way lately—from unexpected falls to navigating a tricky job search—but I’m learning to turn setbacks into lessons. Here’s what’s been happening recently.

Job Search Update: How ChatGPT Became My Secret Weapon

I’ve been working hard to find a new job, and this time I’ve been getting some help from an unexpected source: ChatGPT. It’s helped me rewrite parts of my resume and update my LinkedIn profile, making me feel more confident applying to roles I might have overlooked before.

Each day, I check six different job boards for opportunities in:

  • PVXplus (ProvideX)
  • Sage 100 (MAS 90)
  • Infor FACTS
  • UniBasic, BBx, Business Basic, Prompt
  • AI Trainer / Relevance / Testing / Annotation
  • Support, Customer Service, Virtual Assistant, Data Entry, Bookkeeping, Data Processing, Systems Analyst, Help Desk

So far, I’ve applied to several openings, and the best news is that I found two positions related to PVXplus and Sage 100 that I would have missed if ChatGPT hadn’t flagged them for me. One of those companies actually reached out this morning, and I have a 15-minute interview scheduled for Monday.

I’m using ChatGPT to prep for it, so wish me luck—and if you’re the praying type, your good thoughts are welcome too!

Fall Update: The Sidewalk That Nearly Got Me

Two weeks ago, during my morning walk, I misjudged my step and hit the jagged edge where the sidewalk sections meet. It was a nasty fall:

  • Broke my glasses
  • Cut open my eyebrow
  • Scraped my hands and knees
  • Injured my side—painful enough that it felt like broken ribs

I went to the ER, got X-rays, and thankfully there were no breaks—just a pulled or torn muscle. Two weeks later, I’m improving, but movements like turning in bed, walking, and lifting still remind me of the accident.

This morning, I walked the same route, including a challenging hill I couldn’t have managed a couple of weeks ago. Revisiting the spot where I fell, I noticed that the edge is barely noticeable—but it still taught me to watch my step (literally).

Medical Update: Focusing on Diabetes

Of my health concerns, recently I have been focusing on my diabetes. Last week, I met with my new neurologist about the facial paralysis and double vision I experienced earlier this year. Surprisingly, it wasn’t my autoimmune condition—it was likely caused by diabetes, which makes sense because it occurred just before I was hospitalized for diabetic ketoacidosis in June.

I’ve started a new medication called liraglutide, which helps regulate blood glucose and supports weight loss. It’s an injectable I take once a day, and honestly, it’s painless—much easier than checking blood sugar three times a day. Since starting, my readings have dropped from the mid-150s to the low 100s. My dose just increased, and I’m hopeful this will help me reach normal blood sugar levels.

Amazon PillPack: When Convenience Disappears

For months, I’ve relied on PillPack by Amazon to manage my medications. They pre-pack everything I need for the day—morning, breakfast, and dinner—making it incredibly convenient. Unfortunately, after PillPack merged with Amazon Pharmacy, Medicaid no longer allows me to get my medications in packets. I do not understand why. When PillPack was handling my subscription through Amazon, I could access it, but now I cannot.

I’m hoping that once I get a new job and insurance, I can return to the convenience of pre-packed medications.

Online Training with Coursera: A Cautionary Tale

As part of my job search, I explored online courses to improve my skills. Coursera, which I saw advertised on Facebook, looked promising—but the reality was disappointing.

  • Lessons offered little meaningful information
  • Testing was mostly fill-in-the-blank or multiple-choice, with obvious wrong answers
  • Overall, it was a major time sink
