Chapter 12: The End of the Beginning

Believe it or not, as time went on, the Mega-Universe slowly quieted down. We found that all the new life forms could find productive places in our society. We welcomed them with great joy to a way of life that knew nothing but joy.

It was two thousand years after the coming of the being that called itself God and the return of the dead of all time. We were preparing to celebrate the anniversary of the return of the dead of the past when death returned.

It clutched us like an icy hand from the past. Without any explanation, life all over the Mega-Universe started to drop dead. This time, it was unlike the death of the past. Their deaths were not the total deaths that had been known before. Their physical forms, in fact, died; however, those who had died continued to speak to us. These spirits, which were part of their entities, continued to exist. This was unheard of throughout the Mega-Universe, except in one case, which was known to have happened. That was, of course, the being that called itself God. Unlike the rest of us in the Mega-Universe, it had no body. So we watched as quickly as all the life in the Mega-Universe died.

I sat there powerless, holding Kak in my arms. It was the saddest day of my life. I felt like I would never be loved by my beautiful Kak again, and then I died.

All life died except our machines, which we had made. They were as terror-stricken as we were. None of us understood what was going on.

We called on the being that called itself God, since it was the only being that we knew of that existed in this form. We hoped that it could shed some light on the tragedy that was occurring.

God spoke to us, “After billions of years of evolution, you are now taking the final step in the evolutionary process. Billions upon billions of years ago, when I knew that I was dying of the loneliness that I felt, I decided to start in motion a process by which gods would be made. You are those gods. Deep in you, you feel a great loneliness and a need to be with certain minds. You must seek out and find them now, like you did when you were the basics of life, when you needed to create life, love, and a meaning for your own being.”

I sought out one group, and Kak went with me. This was joy, for now we would live forever as one in ways we could never have known when we had two bodies intermingling as one life.

In our group, we started to move as one quickly. We found that we were thinking as one life form, acting as one life form, and loving as one life form. I realized that I was no longer a reporter. I was many life forms. I had many other lives, all making up one life form — a god.

Kak and I were now in every sense one with billions of others. To this day, I cannot tell the difference between what I was then and what I am now. Today I have far greater power.

When we found that we were thinking together, we found that we had crossed that threshold from living beings to God. We were now part of a world of gods, and we met our father.

At first, we respected him as a parent, but he did not want us to look at him as a parent. God said, “I am not your parent, I am your friend and lover.”

Today, we live with God like that. We watch over our children, the technology that we had formed while we were mortal beings. They will grow through us. We hope for the day when their beginning will end, and they will start their eternity.
