A New Chapter and No Leading Lady

I'm starting to write a new chapter in my life, but I need a leading lady!

Posted early 2010

One of my deepest pleasures is simply showing the woman I love that I love her. I’m affectionate and take time to show I care — listening, holding your hand, and, when I step on your toes, saying I’m sorry and meaning it. (Yes, I was taught that love means always having to say you’re sorry.)

I’m a remarkable person — just ask anyone who knows me! They’ll tell you I’m funny, intelligent, romantic, shy, honest, spiritual, dependable, and above all — different. I enjoy peaceful pursuits like dining out, cooking at home (I’m a great cook!), watching a movie, going to the theater, taking long walks, holding hands, and gazing into someone’s eyes. I love an early-morning swim when the pool is empty, or listening to the rain while watching a fire and holding you close. It all sounds good to me.

The last few years have been a time of trial and growth. They’ve given me a new respect for who I am and what I’m capable of. I’ve found strength and love within myself that I never imagined, and I never lost my sense of humor. I’ve faced and overcome many obstacles — among them my wife’s passing and my own battle with illness — and now I’m ready to share the rest of my life with someone new. Maybe that’s not part of a “standard” online ad, but I’m not a standard kind of guy. I’m better — and stronger — than that.

Believe me, you don’t want to let this one pass by. The question is: are you honest enough to know this is what you want — and brave enough to seize the day?

I own my home and have a good job. I’m looking for someone who’s also independent — a best friend, partner, lover, maybe even a wife. I want someone to share life with, laugh with, grow with, and above all, love.

For fun:
I write, take pictures, listen to music, and watch movies (but not much TV). I enjoy nature — anywhere I can feel closer to God. I’ve always loved space and watching the night sky. When I have the energy, I go to the gym to swim or use the treadmill.

My job:
I’m a computer programmer in the support department — which means I spend my days fixing things and solving problems.

My religion:
I’m a very spiritual person. I started meditating when I was 13 and have meditated daily for over 20 years (only missing a handful of days). I’m Episcopalian by background, but I don’t attend services regularly and don’t feel a strong connection to the institution of the church.

Favorite places:
The top of Mt. Haleakala at sunrise, the Boreas Inn, my home — anywhere I can feel at peace.

Favorite things:
Authors: James Herriot, Dostoyevsky
Movies: Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Casablanca
Music: Musicals, Diana Krall, Mozart, John Denver
Food: Hawaiian, Israeli, Chinese, Japanese, Italian — and time with you.

Last read:
Death Comes for the Archbishop, The Idiot, A Mantis Carol, Dune, Pride and Prejudice, Dialogue with Death.
