Weekly Update: Progress, Preparation, and Staying Ready for the London Opportunity

The good news is that I still seem to be in the running for the London position. I haven’t heard anything this week — but honestly, that’s better than hearing that it isn’t going to happen.

Most of my week has been spent preparing in case the London opportunity does move forward. I updated my Apple Watch, iPhone, and desktop to show both local time and London time, and everything now adjusts automatically for Daylight Saving Time and British Summer Time.

Since the time difference between Vancouver, WA and London is a concern, I’ve shifted my sleep schedule so I can begin work at 6:00 a.m. Vancouver time (14:00 in London). I also configured my iPhone so that if an email or text comes in with “911” in the subject line, a loud alarm will sound — that way I can respond quickly to Priority One support issues at any hour.

I made sure Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and WhatsApp are working correctly across all my devices. In fact, I’m so happy with my new setup that I wrote a full post about it:

While I’m hopeful about the London role, I can’t pause my broader search. As a pilot, I know that you can’t stop flying the plane until you land. This week, I worked with ChatGPT to align all four versions of my résumé:

• the job-board version

• the Providex-focused version
• the Business Basic variant (UniBasic, BBx, etc.)
• the non-programmer version

I also added a brief section covering accomplishments from before 2001 — including my work as a general manager and my time as the People’s Warden at my church — written carefully to avoid triggering ageism while still showing the full range of my experience. I updated my LinkedIn profile as well:

For my own records, I created a personal version of my résumé that includes complete employment history, supervisors, past addresses, past phone numbers, and anything I might need during an interview or background-check process.

Next, I reviewed my list of Providex and Business Basic users and scheduled an outreach email to go out Tuesday morning — which research shows is the best time to send it — to 111 prospects automatically.

I also finally regained access to the Pvx Plus Forum after a password-reset glitch and posted a message on the Off Topic board titled “Experienced Providex / PxPlus Developer Available for New Projects.”

Once again, I find myself amazed at what ChatGPT can do for me. It can “see” a photo I send it, interpret screenshots, identify items on the screen, explain error messages — and generally speed up my workday in ways I didn’t expect. Together with Astra (ChatGPT’s bot name), I went through nearly all my blog posts and cleaned them up, added labels and search descriptions, and integrated AdSense. I also published two new posts:

• A piece on time travel: https://mrodell.blogspot.com/2025/11/the-hidden-problem-with-time-travel.html

• And the post about my new office layout, mentioned above.

I’m even surprised by the depth of information it can access. I mentioned a small company that’s been gone for years, and it still had enough context to answer my questions.
